The project concerns the Host 2015 stand for the Cimbali Group, leading company in production of professional coffee machines.

A 600 square meters space to exhibit the LaCimbali and Faema product ranges.

coffee rituality:  a dedicated exhibition

The design research has combined on one hand the product display, and on the other the enhancement of the coffee experience: a ritual made of sounds, steam, aroma and heat.

The project worked mainly on three levels:

  • Hardware _ the platform system integrating supply and the vertical volumes for storages and LED walls support, dedicated to remote communication
  • Software_ the floating textile architecture, place of communication and experience
  • Lighting_ a professional lighting system dedicated to enhancing the product and the ritual

The textile architecture of the software consists of a sequence of “clouds” where each cloud identifies brand and product family.  Graphic and video communications are placed in the inner surface of the suspended cloud, Faema and LaCimbali brand identities colours and logos are outwards characterizing.

sounds, lights and arduino for a mutable meteorology

The ritual is enhanced by a specific lighting system dedicated to the coffee machine: 6000K cold light emphasizes its stainless-steel surfaces, 2700K warm light heats the heater surface and a concentrated white light beam emphasizes the use of steam.

The sounds of machine, grinders and filter-flaps contribute to the ritual: they are detected by a series of microphones sending signals to several Arduino-boards controlling the outward lighthting of each single cloud.

The result is a sort of “meteorology” where the appearance of the stand is changeable and varying according to sounds.
